SONATAS

Frank Nuyts, based in Ghent, Belgium is an award-winning composer of music that gives performers something to play and something to play with. In 2002, the composer embarked on a cycle of 18 piano sonatas. To complete the cycle, Nuyts wrote Sonata nr. 18“ “Orchard’s rim East: Gothic concretion”  specifically for Roland Peelman. The Sonata was premiered in Ghent in 2015. With the assistance of Arts Centrum De Bijloke, the project subsequently became a 24-Sonata cycle.  The 20th Sonata, ‘radical risk’, commissioned by the Canberra International Music Festival was again written for Roland Peelman, and premiered in Canberra in 2017. Both sonatas, highly charged virtuosic works, have been performed at various occasions, as well as recorded.  Currently, the Sonata project stands at 28!
