ART SONG CANBERRA

Solo singing with an accompanying instrument, goes back as far the Homeric bards and is not exclusive to the Western tradition.  Different strands of solo singing emerged long before the terms ‘Art Song’ or ‘Lieder’ were coined. The songs of traveling troubadours, some preserved in ancient manuscripts, were every bit as ‘arty’ as a ballad by Schubert or Bob Dylan. 

Art Song Canberra is proud to be one of the very few organisations in Australia devoted to the regular performance and appreciation of art song in all its many and varied forms.  Art Song Canberra presents Season of Song annually, a recitals series showcasing the talents of local, national and international artists and striving to keep art song as alive, vibrant and and relevant as ever.

Roland has served as artistic advisor and curated Art Song Canberra’s recital series since 2024, and as president since April 2026.
